History ~
Tin Pedlar of Maine was organized by seven ladies in September 1980 and was the sixth chapter to join ATHA. The name “Tin Pedlar” was chosen to honor Edward Sands Frost of Biddeford, Maine, who, in 1865, was the first to design tin stencils for hooked rug patterns. Tin Pedlar of Maine is one of nine local ATHA chapters in New England.
ATHA, the Association of Traditional Hooking Artists, is an international organization dedicated to promoting interest in rug hooking, provide and exchange ideas and new information about the art of rug hooking and to sponsor educational activities to upgrade and improve the quality of rug hooking.
